Aileen and Jonathan's Craftsman Bungalow . . .

Thank you for visiting our new home's construction web site!

Please NOTE:  Our site is still a work under construction!  However, please feel free to browse the site and provide us with your feedback.  It's a work-in-progress and we are always looking for fresh new ideas on how we can make the experience better and improve the site.  We are making every effort to get as much of the site's design finalized  and the content loaded onto the site as as soon as possible.

The main purpose of our site is to provide you with an overview of our new home, its plans / elevations, and a day-by-day update on the construction process as we are going through it.  Be sure to keep checking back with our site so you can see the progress.  We're excited, so hopefully you are too!

A brief history...

In February 2006, we got the "itch" to buy a piece of land.  Several of our friends had recently invested in vacation properties.  We talked it over and decided they too would begin to take a look.

Where to look?  We decided we wanted a place that was no more than a three hour drive.  Areas we considered?  The Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland shores - Very nice areas, but a) they were too expensive and b) the weekend shore traffic during the summers could be bad.  We considered the Poconos - we spent too many hours sitting in bumper to bumper weekend / holiday traffic at the Delaware Water Gap.

We extended our search to the Catskills where we quickly narrowed our search to the lesser developed section of western Delaware County.  On our very first trip searching for trip, Aileen and I stopped at a rest area outside of Binghamtom where she picked up some travel guides.  While perusing them one night in our hotel room, a small advertisement caught her eye that offered house development sites on generous acrage.  After a few phone calls and a trip to visit the site later, we found ourselved making an offer for a parcel of property on Teed Hill Road outside of the sleepy town of Masonville, New York.

Getting Ready to Build...

We purchased the land in Delaware County, New York.

BC Mountain HomesWe have always loved the architecture style of the Arts and Crafts movement.  After scouring over many internet building plan sites / books and reading Susan Susanka's "Not So Big House" book from cover to cover, we finally came across a set of plans that matched our taste and at the same time seemed to capture the essence of our piece of land.  One thing led to another and we retained and worked with our architect - John Gower from British Columbia, Canada (www.bcmountainhomes.com) to enhance one of his designs and ultimately arrive at the set of plans that you see on our web site today.
